Stag's Leap approaches their Napa Valley collection of wines the same way they do their limited production gems. The foundation for this blend comes from Arcadia Vineyard, though the wine's elegant perfume is distinctly Fay Vineyard and a small addition of S.L.V. fruit adds complexity and concentration. The "Artemis" is velvety and generous, with aromas of cassis and caramel with notes of black olive, black pepper and truffles. On the palate, classic claret flavors of cassis and black cherry are lifted by notes of violets and vanilla. Try this on a cold winter's night with a hearty stew worthy of this wine's namesake, Artemis, the Greek goddess of the hunt.

Aristocratic stuff, brimming with lovely blueberry, plum and vanilla flavors, wrapped in a mantle of peppery, cedary oak, finishing with plenty of flavor and a rousing intensity that promises a long, impressive development. A stylish red that shows no signs of quitting. Best from 2008 through 2020.

A warm, dry spring followed the rainy winter, promoting early vine budbreak and an early onset of the growing season. The year’s higher-than-average rainfall ended with unseasonably warm temperatures in March. An extended heat spell in August and early September accelerated ripening, brining full maturity earlier than usual. The smaller-than-average crop gave our 2004 Georges de Latour Private Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon notable concentration.
