This is a really impressive inexpensive red. The nose shows sweet, pure red berry and blackberry fruit. The palate is smooth and refined with accessible blackberry and blackcurrant fruit which flirts with jamminess but stays fresh and well defined

The deep blue/purple-colored 2003 Syrah Alder Springs Vineyard Homage to Ed Olivera (90% Syrah and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon) exhibits a sensational perfume of mountain-grown black raspberries, blueberries, and flowers. The wine reveals wonderful structure and definition along with oodles of concentrated, sweet jammy fruit and abundant glycerin. This beauty should drink well for 10-12 years.

The inky/blue/purple-tinged 2002 Syrah Alder Springs Vineyard Homage to Ed Olivera reveals aromas and flavors of blackberries, blueberries, creosote, and acacia flowers. Heady, full-bodied, and viscous, with tremendous opulence as well as fleshy fruit, this mind-blowing Syrah may be even better than my numerical rating suggests. Already showy, I would opt for drinking it over the next 5-7 years.

Full, complex and spicy. Elegant scents of ripe fruit. Soft on the palate with round tannins.
Food pairing recommendations: Poultry first and foremost, followed by sea bass, striped bass, red snapper and grouper in the fish category. Can be enjoyed with baked ziti or eggplant parmigana. Would be excellent also with capellini with a tomato basil or puttanesca sauce.

They say, "Lovely aromas of black cherry confiture and freshly shaved vanilla bean lead to a ripe, supple palate of cassis, plum and mineral, all shaded deftly with a dash of spicy toast. Shows nice grip too. Drink now through 2008. 19,000 case made. 7,000 cases imported."

An interesting melange of currant, prune, flowers and hints of cardamom on the nose follow through to a full body, where the fruit turns to fresh black currant, coating the firm tannins and giving a long, fresh finish of fruit and mineral. Superfresh and well-structured.
