Altair Vineyards     Sideral 2002
Solid and sweet, with a nose that’s plum-filled, fresh and intriguing. A blend of several grapes, but the base is Cabernet. Flavors of cherry, raspberry and plum are bright, while the finish is fairly bold and carries a note of chocolate. Not super lush but rock solid, with a serious tannic foundation. Score: 89. —Michael Schachner, November 01, 2005.

Alvaro Palacios     Finca Dofi 2005
Finca Dofi is sourced from a single estate vineyard planted to 60% Garnacha with the balance Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, and Carinena aged in 100% new French oak. Opaque purple, it offers a superb bouquet of slate, leather, pencil lead, wood smoke, and cedar. Youthful, tight, but perfectly balanced, this intense effort will evolve in the cellar for 8-10 years. All the ingredients for greatness are there but patience is required. Score: 95. —Jay Miller, February 2008.

Atalon     Cabernet Sauvignon 2002
"A friendly wine, that makes a pleasing statement. Red fruit expression. Currants, leather, dried spice notes, then slightly mint, cedar tones, graceful cocoa powder structure - good length of lingering flavors." -Winemaker, Thomas Peffer

Beaulieu Vineyard     Georges de Latour Cabernet Sauvignon 2000
Beaulieu's flagship wine...a beautiful wine, oozing black currant and cigar-box flavors. The dusty tannins create a lush, velvety texture that displays great balance and charm. Wine Enthusiast - February 2004

Barefoot Cellars     Cabernet Sauvignon 2006
We promised we’d report on Barefoot Cabernet Sauvignon, the only remaining red wine from Barefoot Cellars left for us to try. This cab, like Barefoot Merlot, made AOL’s Best Cheap Wines list. Like the Merlot, I’m not sure that I’d put Barefoot Cabernet Sauvignon in my top 5 list for cheap wines, but it’s certainly a good value in the $6 - $7 range. The aroma has blackberry and cherry notes, with an unusual baking bread note that’s a bit yeasty. The flavor isn’t quite as bold as we’d li...

Joseph Drouhin     Bourgogne A.C. Rouge 2004
Drouhin’s ubiquitous, 25,000-case generic “Laforet” displays tender, ripe cherry fruit, a silky palate and iodine-like minerality. Also recommended: 2005 Bourgogne Laforet

Stags Leap     Stags Leap 2006
90 points Wine Enthusiast: "There's something Chablisian about this Chardonnay. It's partly the acidity, which is high, and partly the gunmetal minerality, courtesy of another cool vintage in the southern Napa/Carneros region where the grapes were grown. Add in oak-infused pineapples, peaches and pears, and you have a fairly significant wine that could even benefit from some years in the cellar." (02/08)
