The 2004 Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is a refined and complex wine that combines subtlety and depth. It has a dark ruby color with a deep red edge and displays aromas of fresh blackberries, violets, cola, nutmeg and licorice. In the mouth, the wine has a juicy attack and offers great expression of fruit and spice on the mid-palate. Its fruit-driven finish is long and elegant. Properly cellared, this wine should give drinking pleasure through 2023.

Thick and rich, ripe, concentrated, dense black fruits, black currant, slightly sweet, a bit of mineral and cedar, integrated oak, and soft tannins.
|
A rich, elegant, sophisticated style, built around a concentrated core of spicy blackberry, currant and plum flavors that run deep and earthy. This full-blown wine is packed with dense, opulent flavors and a long, lingering aftertaste. Best from 2005 through 2012.

Generous and distinctive for its smoky blackberry and black pepper flavors, ranging over mildly grippy tannins that support the flavors and carry through a long and expressive finish.

This wine’s intense colour has deep ruby tones with bright edges in the glass. The bouquet provides lifted aromas of poached rhubarb and plum, together with hints of delicate oak, leatherwood and spicy licorice characters. The palate is finely structured with rich, sweet fruit driven flavours of fresh loganberries and raspberries interspersed with savoury and spicy notes. Overall the flavour is generous and lingers on. The Reuben is a great food wine complementing many styles of food.

A big but balanced Cabernet with tell-tale lush d'Arenberg fruit and ripe, ageworthy structure. Cassis, mint, blackberry, leather and cedar spice with sweet, juicy tannins. Joseph Rowe Osborn, founder of d'Arenberg and patron of the turf, bought his first McLaren Vale vineyards with the winnings of his racehorse, Footbolt, whose name lives on in Shiraz form. His grandson d'Arry and great-grandson Chester inherited the business and have built it into one of Australia's best loved wineries. The last decade has seen Chester develop a range of white wines every bit as individual and thrilling as the reds with which the company made its name. With the iconic red stripe labels and funky names d'Arenberg's wines have a loyal following, eager for more of the rich, concentrated fruit for which they are famous.

Distinctively true to its roots this shows true terroir influenced notes of a cool menthol quality coming up through the dark cherry and red current fruit on the nose, counterpoised with a slight loam and herbal note as well aromatically. The palate offers an attractive suppleness, fuller bodied with some nice juicy notes to the darker red fruit flavors. Layered with a solid beam of acidity running through, this has good depth and persistence that gives this a lot of appeal as the tannins are there, yet finer tuned, which says you can enjoy now, but holding for a year or two won’t hurt either.

Nice focus to the juicy blackberry and brier flavors here, with suave toast and mocha notes, and a long, dark, fleshy finish. Very tasty.

The 2006 Alpha Cabernet Sauvignon has 10% Merlot in its blend. It received the identical barrel/tank regimen. Purple-colored, it exhibits aromas of cedar, spice box, tobacco, black currant, and blackberry. Layered yet elegant, it has enough structure to evolve for 2-3 years. Balanced and lengthy, it should drink well from 2009 to 2016.
