Champagne maker Anselme Selosse's acclaimed and unique Champagnes of Chardonnay grapes have re-entered the U.S. market in limited quantity. Infamous throughout France for his emphasis on viticulture, terroir and Champagne with expressive fruits, Selosse's "Initiale" is a classic Brut--an assemblage of three vintages, aged 2 years before degorgement.

The rich and creamy entry is followed by characteristic Puligny minerality and very nice acidity giving brightness at the finish. Overall, a delight, easy to drink and lovely. The 2004 Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is a refined and complex wine that combines subtlety and depth. It has a dark ruby color with a deep red edge and displays aromas of fresh blackberries, violets, cola, nutmeg and licorice. In the mouth, the wine has a juicy attack and offers great expression of fruit and spice on the mid-palate. Its fruit-driven finish is long and elegant. Properly cellared, this wine should give drinking pleasure through 2023.

The 2007 Vintner's Reserve Chardonnay is entirely made from estate fruit. This cuvee seems to get better with each vintage as winemaker Randy Ullom is a virtuoso at producing such high quantity/high quality wine. Notes of melons, honeysuckle, and lemon oil along with remarkable flavor and texture are found in this wine.

Pineapple, citrus fruit and stone on the somewhat cooler nose. Then fat, dense and dry, with a more citric quality and sharper definition to the taut fruit and stone flavors. A more nervy style but with no lack of density. Finishes with very good length.

This wine displays lifted tropical fruits with notes of lantana and capsicum. There is a passionfruit entry on the palate coupled with citrus and wild cape gooseberry notes that linger, and are quite literally mouthwatering! This is a balanced wine, with a texture that will match well with food but is equally enjoyable on its own.

Good deep red. Ripe black cherry and smoke on the nose. A step up in sweetness and lushness, with lovely purity and impressive concentration to the flavors of black cherry, dark raspberry and smoke. This is Iron Horse's Blanc de Noirs, made from predominately Pinot Noir. It has a beautiful, pale-peach hue.
